Why Wild Sycamore?

Chris and I have always wanted land. You'd think agreeing on what you want as couple is the hard part, but for us agreeing was never the issue. It was finding what we were looking for. God had planted the desire in both of us, but then in the way that God does... He made us wait. Ten years. And while that perhaps doesn't seem like that long in the grand scheme of things, it definitely felt like an eternity.

I'm sure I'll share the whole long crazy story as some point here, but for now suffice it to say that one year ago, Chris and I got tired of waiting for something to happen, and we made a five year plan. Five years seemed like the appropriate amount of time to get our acts together, save up as much as we could, and make the leap to leaving town and living off the land. Five years.

Five months later we bought our farm.

It's been the wildest ride (and no, that's not quite where the "wild" in Wild Sycamore came from, but I guess it may as well be. A bit like trying to sip out of a fire hose.

One year ago this week, we drove up a hill to see a property on a whim, never thinking that it would work, but dying to see if there was a snowball's chance in hell that we could do this thing. The first thing we saw was a giant wild sycamore tree situated perfectly beside the handsomest white barn you ever did see. It was love at first sight.

A year later and we're finally ready to make it official. Wild Sycamore Farm... for a tree that has seen the past of this farm and will hopefully see it well into the future. The "wild" is a nod to our commitment to keep a good portion of this land as untouched habitat for the indigenous species that also call this home and provide us with a good deal of wild foods that sustain us.

Thanks for being here. If you're new, welcome. If you've been with Chris and I through this whole journey and you're still here... thanks for sticking with us, for supporting us, for being our people. We love you more than you know.
